Tech Tip #20 ( How to remove a gearbox M4/M16 )

Tech Tip #20 ( How to remove a gearbox M4/M16 edition )
***This tutorial will exclude ICS and other spilt gearbox designs.***

This will be a basic tutorial on removing a gearbox from the lower receiver of your AEG
Depending on the brand of AEG you own this could be slightly different and I will try to cover the differences as well.
First, you will start by removing the upper receiver off of the AEG.

Now move to the stock of the AEG. This AEG is rear wired and has wiring in the crane stock. Front wired AEG’s will not have the wiring but will still take down the same. On the inside of the buffer tube (AKA receiver extension) you will see that there is a small screw. Remove this and carefully pull the tube off of the lower receiver. Use caution here as on some models there is a small disk.

Now that you have the stock loose you can remove it, however on some models like this G&G I have here you must either unplug the wiring from the gearbox or remove the connector. I have heat shrink and can replace it so I unplug it.

Next step will be to remove the motor and the pistol grip. Start by removing the heat sink on the bottom of your pistol grip. ** As in the motor height adjustment tip DO NOT move the center screw unless you are complexly sure of what you are doing.**

When you remove the heat sink you may find that there is a small disk. Don’t lose this, set it to the side or on the inside of your heat sink plate.

Remove the wiring from the bottom of the motor.

You can now remove your motor. This will expose the mounting screws for the motor grip. Unscrew these and lightly pull down on the pistol grip. **Mind your wires, be very careful with this step.**

Now remove the rear body pin. ** Some models this pin will have to be remove to take the upper receiver off.**

We can now remove the magazine release. This will also vary, this model has a screw on the side that you simply unscrew.

However there are models that do not have this screw and is sometimes confusing on how to remove it. First, start by pressing in the magazine catch as far in as it will go, then jam it to the side so it stays locked inward.

Now move to the other side of the body, you will find that the magazine catch is protruding out the side. Grab this and rotate it to the left. Keep going till the catch comes off of the AEG.

With the G&G type models you will just unscrew the magazine catch and remove it.

Right above your trigger you will see a small pin. You will have to use a small punch and press it out. If it does not come out easy move to the other side of the body and try pressing it out that direction

Place the selector on Semi auto and lightly pull up on the rear of the gearbox while pressing down on the body.

You can now pull the gearbox out of the body.

Operation Curb Stomper (Intro to Mil-Sim)

Scenario: The Islamic Republic of Iran has never tried to hide its ambition for nuclear weapons. The Israelis have publically stated that they will never allow Iran to gain nuclear weapons, and in the past, they have directed air strikes at Iranian nuclear facilities to stop the Iranians from achieving their goal. The Iranian regime has remained undeterred. They have built a new nuclear facility. Knowing the UN would never allow an air strike near civilian targets, the Iranians have built their facility beneath the town of Tela Bezgeru. To protect their facility, they have reinforced the town with a full strength company from the Ansar-al-Mahdi, the special branch of the IRGC Ground Forces responsible for protecting Iran's WMD program.
In response to Iran's blatant disregard for both the international community and its own civilians, the Israeli military has deployed its top-secret commando unit, Maglan, to the town of Tela Bezgeru. Their mission: eliminate the Ansar-al-Mahdi threat, and evacuate all civilians from the site prior to the Israeli Air Force bombing the site.

When: 21 APR 2012
Where: DFF MOUT Field, Oro Grande, CA
Max FPS: 366 AEG, 515 Sniper Rifle, measured with .25g BB
Cost: $35 per person

Ansar-al-Mahdi (Iranian)- Any tan based uniform pattern. NO CIVILIAN OR CONTRACTOR IMPRESSIONS!

How to register: Players can register 2 ways-
1) Online: Players can send an e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it in order to register. Registration e-mails must contain the full name of all players wishing to attend, their ages, and which team they wish to play on. Online registrations can be paid for via PayPal.
2) In person: Players can register in person at Desert Fox Fields. Players will need to locate an Evolved Tactical Systems staff member (different from DFF staff. We are usually located by the white trailer) in order to register in person. ETS Staff will collect your info and payment (must be in cash).

ETS considers this to be an "intro-to-MilSim" game. While the uniform and weapon requirements are not particularly stringent, there will be a basic command structure that needs to be followed, and there will be limitations on the number of magazines players may carry if using hi-capacity (winding) mags. Non-winding mags have no limitations. This game is perfect for those who wish to "test the waters" for MilSim, and for those experienced players wanting more than your typical weekend game. ETS will be breaking out all of our old props and effects for this event, as well as some new ideas we've been working on. We look forward to seeing all of you there!

All standard DFF rules for eye pro: must closely conform to the face, ANSI z87.1 rated
Minimum age to register is 15. Parents must accompany their children for the whole day (no dropping kids off and then picking them up later)
Magazine requirements: Players are allowed to carry up to 600 rounds in winding mags (3x 200rd MP5 mag, 2x 300 rd M4 mag). If a player is using a hi cap that holds more than 300 rounds, only one magazine may be carried. Approved SAWs and LMGs do not have these restrictions. Non winding magazines do not have these restrictions.
